Video Surveillance in Childcare Facilities

To all our parents, children are our most precious resources, our beloved family members. Parents will do everything to keep them safe and to make sure that they get the care that they need. For professional caretakers, the most important thing is to let parents know that their children are taken good care of and secure enough.     We have all been terrified by the news stories and surveillance video-feeds showing the child neglect or abuse perpetrated by apparently trustworthy and qualified individuals. These days, parents are thinking twice before committing their children to professional caretakers. Infant and toddler care centers, preschools, and kindergartens have to work harder than ever before to assure parents that their staff and facilities are safe and nurturing, and that they continue to be so after they’ve kissed their child goodbye.

Nowadays, the worries of the parents have been disappeared, because the video surveillance can offer assurance for all parties in every childcare centers.

Over the past few years, the growing popularity of nanny-cams for in-home childcare surveillance has revealed devastating cracks in the professional childcare industry. Now parents are looking for full-time daycare for their youngest children, which become more often to out of the home professional childcare services, but the questions and trust issues that the nanny-cams spurred into existence remain pressing concerns for many parents. In the ultra competitive child-care industry, it is imperative to reassure your client parents that their children will be safe and cared for in their absence, and that in the event of any accident or staff misconduct, the problem will be recognized and addressed immediately.

Installing digital cameras with Internet Protocol (IP) technology to run real time surveillance in all of the public childcare areas can provide excellent assurance for parents, staff, and facility managers alike, because it’s not just the children you’re protecting. Live recorded video feeds present a documented account of observable events that is acceptable by a court of law. In the event of an accident or allegation of misconduct, the video feeds can be reviewed to determine if the staff is at fault. Given the extremely emotional nature of such allegations when they pertain to young children, it’s imperative to have such a record to defend your employees, or to root out and eliminate those employees who should not be working in childcare facilities.

Digital cameras with IP technology are amazingly easy to install. They are the “plug and play” version of security cameras, requiring no special wiring or tools. They can simply be mounted into place, turned on, and added into the facilities network via computer. The advances in digital wireless and micro-technology make it possible to conceal IP surveillance in almost any book, clock, fixture or appliance, giving facility managers the choice to either place the cameras in visually prominent places or to conceal them from observation. This is an important issue in childcare facilities, where young children might feel intimidated by overt camera observation. With easily concealed cameras, facility staff and parents will know they are there, but the children never have to.

Along with the video surveillance in children care centers, parents need not to worry about their children while they are not around them.

Five Steps for Doing Video Security

Today, you can create your own video security system by using surveillance and computer equipment which is available on the market. Setting up for any kind of do-it-yourself home security system is simple, and when it is done, you will be able to monitor your home and your family from anywhere in the world. You will also be able to store video surveillance footage that you can burn to a DVD and archive, or give to the authorities as evidence against a criminal that tried to break into your home. Here are some tips for you to have your own video security system up.

Step 1

Shut down your computer and Internet modem.

Step 2

Follow the installation instructions for connecting a wireless router to your Internet connection. Wireless routers are universally compatible and will work with any other wireless computer product. You will need to have at least one computer wired directly to your wireless router for it to work properly, so it is advisable that you designate your home PC as the computer hard-wired to the router.

Step 3

Turn on your equipment in the order of Internet modem, wireless Internet router and then the computer. The wireless router should be ready to go and you should have Internet access.

Step 4

Install wireless surveillance camera systems in the area in which you want to use video security. Be sure that your video camera is properly rated for how you intend to use it. Use only outdoor-rated cameras for outdoor applications and indoor-rated cameras for indoors. Some cameras are rated for both applications but have limitations, so be sure to do research and purchase the right camera for your needs.

Step 5

Install the motion-detecting software for the video surveillance camera on to your computer.

After knowing the above steps, there are still some tips and warnings you should be aware. On the one hand, your computer hard drive should be at least 500GBin size, and you should set aside a folder in which to store your surveillance video. On the other hand, make sure your computer has a DVD burner drive so you can burn your video to a DVD and archive them for later use.

Fight against Terrorism with CCTVs

In most places, like shopping malls, railway stations, airports or other places that are visited by a large number people, CCTVs are essential as they help to keep track of what is happening in a particular place through cameras installed in the place.

At a steady pace, the terror attacks is in the rise, CCTVs have become immensely popular in crowded places like platforms, bus stands and airports. The close circuit cameras and television monitoring can detect and suspicious activity in the place. If there is abandoned luggage or unattended parcels, they can detect it. They can also detect smoke in case there is a fire.

There is a team that is always in monitoring the CCTV. The person does the needful once he spots suspicious behavior. If the CCTV finds something suspicious, it rings an alarm to bring it into notice.

Therefore the CCTVs can stop an untoward incident or a crime. But this also helps in investigation. Here I must relate to the incident in Mumbai, India, where the CCTV footage from a nearby departmental store helped to picture the criminals who shot a journalist from point blank range. The footage can be a costly evidence to track the criminals and get them punished.

You can also have CCTV camera with audio or VCAs in transports such as a bus or even a train. These compact self-contained systems are effective in moving vehicles. This ensures the safety of the passengers who are the most vulnerable targets. Remember, CCTV footages in London busses helped to stop the bomb blast in another bus and the loss of lives. Britain has gone ahead in the implementation of smart CCTVs and it is time other countries learn from them.

Railways can also have tripwires set up along the lines. This can detect any terrorist activity on the tracks. It is for places where physical guarding is not possible. Since its starting, fifty years or so, it has proved an important aspect of security and combat terrorism.

One drawback that is associated with the traditional CCTVs is that they need a lot of cabling and a team must be always behind it. The footages are to be stored and the tapes require changing and storing. To solve this problem technology has advanced to another level with IP CCTVs.

The IP cameras can be centralized in working under one network and have become easy to maintain. They are providing wireless solutions that are so essential. They analyze the image of the movement or lack of it and can detect criminal activity. In fact the video footage recorded by the surveillance CCTV cameras can be shared and sent to the security cops.

Wi-Fi and 3G have made the working of the CCTVs even more effective. 3G has provided the required bandwidth to send videos. The funding of the CCTVs is done by the local authorities and businesses. The presence of CCTVs has been to deter the criminals to carry on criminal activity in that specific place.

Dome camera basic facts

When it comes to choose a camera, I prefer to choose a dome one, because it looks pleasing to the eye with only a dome shape cover. Now there are various models ranging form having infrared lighting, varifocal or fixed lenses, monochrome or color cameras are available in the market. Some are tamper resistant with a high resistance polycarbonate casing.

There are two main types of dome cameras, fixed cameras that are static and remain in one position. The other type can tilt, have zoom and pan features. The majority of dome cameras are covered with a dark dome that makes it challenging to see in what direction the camera is observing. The majority of dome cameras have varifocal lenses that make it possible for the camera to observe 360 degrees.

Dome cameras too have infrared and other day and night features such as changing from color to monochrome in low light conditions. One particular feature of the design of the dome camera is that it is almost vandal and tampering proof.  It is also ideal for use outdoors as most types are weather proof and can easily withstand the robust nature elements such as hale, wind and rain, therefore, the outdoor PTZ dome camera help you monitor your home around.

It is easy to install dome cameras; they usually come with the relevant mounting brackets. However, it can be mounted on virtually any place by using any of the assortments of mounts available. A popular mount is the recessed mount. It is used to hide the complete camera apart from the dome itself. Pendant mounts are also popular and are applied in the same way a pendant would hang from a necklace.

When buying a dome camera, you would ideally look for a camera that has strong vandal and weather proof properties. As for the quality of images, you need a security camera that is set with white balance and an auto gain element. A low lux rating is also important to obtain the best quality images during night and low light conditions.

Other factors such as operating temperatures and heat and frost protection should be considered for it to operate optimally in your significant weather conditions. Before you decide to buy a specific model, you should consider how easy it is to install and if it will be installation yourself or do you need to have it installed by a technician. Usually, installing a dome camera is simple and you can do it easy with no significant financial outlay.

Victim Jumps from Second Floor Asking for Help

Recently, I read funny news in a newspaper, in Illinois in an apartment building that just happens to be in yelling distance from a police station, a man jumped from his second floor window screaming for help. Fortunately the police were able to catch the two guys who invaded his apartment.

Apparently he didn’t have home security alarm systems, which is an option in an apartment and something to consider.

Two men kicked in his door threatening the man with a gun and proceeded to tie the guy up. When they left to kick in the door of another apartment he was able to break free and that’s when he jumped.

I’ve often thought of what my response would be in a situation like this as my home has multiple floors. As a result I’ve discussed the possibilities of escape and the logistics involved with my several friends.

Jumping from a second floor window or porch certainly could kill you. So can falling off a chair you might be standing on to water plants. However a second floor window in most cases won’t be much higher than 20 feet and faced with a gun or a knife wielded by a violent home invader, jumping 20 feet for this guy was definitely an option for him.

On houses with porches that have poles and posts and the resident is adept at climbing that may be a consideration for some.

The safest and most recommended option is a fire escape ladder. I own a 25 foot ladder, three-story fire escape ladder with anti-slip rungs that can hang out a window.

It’s in my closet in case of fire or a home invasion and hopefully I never have to use it.

In fact, there are many secure ways we can keep ourselves safe instead of jumping from the floor which is so dangerous. As we can see that security industry has become more and more popular nowadays, and the security equipment is available to every family, for example these cost-effective complete security systems are perfect choice for your home security. Avoiding from such risk happens, you had better install one.

Is Security Camera Signs Better Than the Real Thing?

Nowadays, most of the people would rather make the choice to install security systems, because they can stop theft and other related problems. There are times when a person’s budget comes into play acting as a deterrent in which case you might get some help from security camera signs to bluff your way out, so to speak.

Let’s say you don’t have the means to install a normal type of 4 camera surveillance system. Ok, no problem. You always have the option of utilizing security camera signs, which if they are done right can even be more efficient than the real thing. Your overall success rate would be dependent on where and how you install these security camera signs.

security camera signs

Therefore, you will have the best effect you would have to understand the psychology of a typical criminal, that majority of who want to strike you undetected. There are very few criminals, unless psychologically ill, that would have the daring to challenge authorities having to face a surveillance camera or even risk detection by it.

This is one of the main reasons why you should have the security camera signs appearing to be hidden but at the same time detectable by the watchful and wary eye of any would be criminal. If you do install it so that it is in full view, it may warn off the criminal who would consider ways of evading it and if you choose to have it completely hidden, it would then serve you no purpose.

When you are buying a security camera sign, select the one which appears to resemble as close to the real thing as possible. Then install these at strategic areas where they would appear to be mainly focused to detect any likely threats to safety. You might have them mounted both inside and outside for the greatest effect possible. This would serve to act as an ideal prevention method for any likely mischief on your homes premises.

A significant reality that is frequently overlooked when utilizing security camera signs is the necessity to keep this fact known to as few people as possible. The old saying that ‘these walls have ears’ and ‘these windows have eyes’ is totally appropriate in cases such as this because you never know who could be a wolf in sheep’s clothing and you having to talk about your fake security system even with insiders may therefore act against your interests.

Because that actual installation of this equipment is in reality child’s play you might want to set it up yourself thus preventing others from actually knowing the truth and hence getting the full protection at the minimum possible cost.

After all, these security signs will not work indefinitely. It is just a temporary stop gap until you have the means or are ready to come to a decision to put in a real security system.

Can a Dog Really Protect Your Home?

Form the security market, we heard from some customers said that, “I don’t need a home security system, I have a dog.”This is a phrase which has heard hundreds of times. As I am a dog lover, and I believe that dogs can be a theft deterrent, they are certainly no substitute for monitored home security systems. But now I really doubt that for the following reasons.

On the one hand, can a dog call the police or notify you if a burglary or attempted burglary has occurred? A monitored home security system can. Even if your dog scared a burglar away, you definitely wouldn’t want a broken window or door staying open all day until you arrived home to find it. And, God forbid, what if an intruder were to hurt your beloved canine?

On the other hand, think about monitored fire protection. With home security 361, we can install monitored photoelectric smoke detectors that will automatically dispatch the fire department if a fire occurs in your home. Your dog can’t call the fire department if a fire breaks out while you are away. Even worse, your dog could be injured in a fire when you are not at home.

It seems that dogs for home security sound like a good idea; however, they are really not an effective way to protect your home.  Form home security 361, you get a home security system with a reasonable price, and there are some wireless alarm monitoring at a low cost.

If you do not have a security system in your home, now it is time for you to get a new system from home security 361 stores, or check out our compatible systems page to see if we can monitor your existing alarm systems. If you really want to get fancy, check out our Home Automation package, where you can arm and disarm your alarm, control your lights and door locks, adjust your thermostat, and more…all from your Smart Phone.

Now, can your dog do that?

Arrest Thief with the Help of Family Photo

What looked like simple picking for a handbag thief turned out to be a surefire way to get arrested? From the thief’s point of view there was an unsupervised handbag sitting on the stoop, which he helped himself to.

The thief quickly sifted through the bag, throwing out things they didn’t need like children’s toys. He was left with a wallet filled with money and credit cards, hotel keys, rental automobile keys, and an iPad in the bag. In lieu of fleeing the scene with loot in hand, they decided to hang around, waiting to grab up more personal items.

Little did he know that the relatives he victimized was taking a picture that would also capture his identity and incriminate him in this crime? After noticing that their bag was missing and nowhere in sight, the Myers relatives decided to check their camera hopping it would give them some clue as to what happened.

But to their surprise, not only did they receive a clue; they got all the facts they needed: a photograph of a thief going through their bag as they were turned away. Not having a moment to waste, the relatives reported the crime to the police and showed them the photograph of the perpetrator.

Within moments, the thief’s description was broadcasted out to all the nearby officers and he was apprehended almost as fast as he stole the bag. The police caught him with the bag containing a wallet full of cash and credit cards, hotel keys, rental car keys, and an iPad in the bag. The rest of the possession were found in a nearby trash can and were returned to the family.

Not only did the family learn the lesson of leaving their possessions out of their sight, but the thief learned having a camera pointed at you during a crime, even if it’s not a security spy camera or a CCTV security camera on the road wall, can get you arrested. So don’t have a fluky mind, if you did something violate the law, you hardly can escaped from that, because when you take action, some invisible eyes are watching you and record the evidence for the future use.

Install a Camera in the Back of Head-for Art Sake

Have you ever seen a person installs camera in the back of his head. However, in a New York University, Wafaa Bilal, a photography college professor indeed installs a camera in the back of his head. In school, students joke about teachers having eyes in the back of their heads. But for their professor this isn’t a simple jest. And while he doesn’t have a literal eye in the back of his skull, he instead installed a functioning camera.

The impetus for this bizarre act stems not only from Bilal’s love of photography but also his contribution to a project he is working on for the Quatar Arab Museum of Modern Art. The idea behind this project, which Bilal calls “The 3rd I,” is that the camera implanted in the back of his head will take a single snapshot every minute for a year, and upload the images in real-time to a display within the “Told/Untold/Retold” exhibit at the museum.

“I wanted to lose that subjectivity [of knowingly taking photographs],” Bilal said. “At the same time I wanted to capture everyday mundane images.”

Aside from just art purposes, the real underlying motive for this project is political, bringing awareness to the role surveillance is playing in our daily lives.

“This will expose the unspoken conditions we face,” Bilal said Thursday. “A project like this is meant to establish a dialogue about surveillance.”

And to take this project one step further, the camera not only streams real-time snapshots of everything Bilal is doing, it is also connected to a real-time GPS tracker that uploads his location along with the footage to the Web.

That’s a funny thing to hear about, since it is for art sake, what can we do?  I hope he would be able to take something interesting in the future.
